Spend a Saturday in Salem this summer

Weekends looked different 250 years ago, especially during the summer season. Moravians in the town of Salem used extra daylight to harvest and store food for winter.

Visitors can stroll the streets of Old Salem Museum and Gardens from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. during Salem Saturdays in Summer through Saturday, Sept. 16.

A few of the must-see spots:
  • Watch talented potters continue the tradition of making goods at the Potter’s Workshop at T. Bagge.
  • Learn about the free and enslaved people who worshiped at St. Philips African Moravian Church.
  • See working gardens and how they fed the Salem community at the Seed Saving Lab.
  • Grab a sugar cake at Winkler Bakery and see what it took to make baked goods in the summer heat.
Pro tip: Buy a ticket before you go so you can start exploring as soon as you park.
