Filling the street with art
Art Crush block party connects artists and community
Art Crush happens every third Friday of the month April-December. | Photo by @hiaj
Creativity knows no bounds in the downtown arts district of Winston-Salem. Every third Friday, artists flock to Trade + 6th Streets to show off their craft during a street festival known as Art Crush. You can get to know local artists, buy their original pieces, and enjoy a night of food, live music, and performances.
The Arts District of Winston-Salem, the nonprofit behind the event, strives to make each occasion different and exciting. August will mark the fifth Art Crush and you’ll be able to hear it happening. Michelle Merrill, the Winston-Salem Symphony’s new music director, will lead orchestra members in a performance of pieces she hand-selected for the night. Some members of the youth orchestra will also show off their skills — and even the public can test their talents at the “instrument petting zoo”.
Art Crush is happening tonight from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Chick-Fil-A is launching a new seasonal sandwich later this month and I’m glad to see pimiento cheese getting the national attention it deserves. Winston-Salem has some claim to pimiento cheese fame — Red Clay Gourmet is made here.
