Small Business Saturday is coming up on Nov. 25. What started as an American Express campaign in 2010 to inspire consumers to shop locally has become an annual holiday that’s celebrated nationally.
We asked you to tell us which local small businesses you love shopping with + any deals you’re excited for, and (as usual) you didn’t disappoint. Plus, we included some of the local deals and shops we love.

The Winston-Salem Fire Department wants to keep you and your family safe when it comes to cooking turkey during Thanksgiving. The fire chief recommends roasting the bird in the oven to decrease the chance of a cooking fire. (WXII 12 News)

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools was one of two North Carolina districts to receive a federal grant totaling $943,688 focused on modernizing school choice and residential zones. The project will analyze how various factors affect students’ integration in the school. (WFDD)

Diego the ocelot celebrated his 20th birthday at the North Carolina Zoo, surpassing the average lifespan of ocelots in the wild, which is 12 years old. Diego has been at the Zoo since 2010 and has fathered four kittens since being here with his mate, Inca.
