The City of Winston-Salem authorized $120,000 to provide emergency shelter to unhoused families for the 2024 fiscal year.
The funds are a portion of the $2.6 million Community Development Block Grant the city received through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
The money will go toward families experiencing homelessness in the form of motel vouchers. They will be used to house families during cold weather. United Way of Forsyth County will assist families and the city’s Neighborhood Services Department will be in charge of dispersing the money.
City Council will meet on April 15 at 6 p.m. to discuss strategies around homelessness and affordable housing.
