Regardless, whether you’ve met “the one” or are hoping to impress someone new, we’ve got 20+ local date night ideas that are legen — wait for it — dary.

While being active may not be your first go-to when you think about back pain, exercise goes a long way in maintaining a strong, healthy spine. | Photo provided by Novant Health
An appointment with a spinal surgeon means spinal surgery is coming soon — true or false?
For Novant Health spinal surgeon Dr. Scott Nimmons that’s false. That’s because Dr. Nimmons puts this action plan in place to resolve your back pain:
Protection
Protection comes first. Three things Dr. Nimmons says you can do to protect your back are:
Maintain a body weight conducive to reducing stress on discs and joints.
Be active — Do 30 minutes of moderate activity 3-4 days a week, and focus on core strength.
Avoid nicotine to avert its enzymatic effects (think: premature aging).
Nonsurgical treatments
Dr. Nimmons + the medical teams at Novant Health spinal care locations take a multidisciplinary approach to your pain, with specialists in physical therapy, injections, medicines, surgery, and weight management working together to create a treatment plan customized to you.

Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) is celebrating a new chapter. Bonita J. Brown will begin her tenure as the HBCU’s 14th chancellor on Monday, July 1. She succeeds Interim Chancellor Anthony Graham and will be the school’s first permanent female chancellor.
Brown is no stranger to the Twin City — her parents met on the campus of WSSU. She holds a bachelor’s and a law degree from Wake Forest University. She was an assistant attorney at WSSU from 2004 to 2006 and also worked as general counsel for UNC School of the Arts. Most recently, she served as Interim President at Northern Kentucky University.
Brown outlined her priorities during the announcement yesterday. She said she is focused on the university’s fiscal well-being, enrollment, academics that prepare students for the future, morale and campus culture, building community partnerships, and supporting athletics.
“To the students, faculty, and staff, please know that I will be here with you and I’m looking forward to the bright future ahead. It’s time for the work to begin,” Brown said.

My husband loves to try new menu items so most of our date nights involve a great meal. We always share the ahi tuna tartare appetizer at Ryan’s and a cannoli for dessert at DiLisio’s.
