The wheels of this bus will go round and round — and that’s thanks to a zero-emission transportation grant The Arts Based School in Winston-Salem received to purchase an all-electric school bus.
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded $345,000 to the charter school via the Clean School Bus Program to replace its older, diesel-fueled school bus. Robin Hollis, charter director of The Arts Based School, is thrilled about the news.
“We’re excited to use our new electric bus as both a learning tool and a means to get from here to there,” Hollis said. “Our students will get to learn about the environmental benefits of an electric vehicle. We hope to inspire other schools to take action toward environmental stewardship.”
Schools districts can apply for a similar grant to help pay for new, zero-emission school buses. Applications for the 2024 Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grant Program are open until Thursday, July 25. Recipients will be notified in November.
The Buy
Iced chai. Cool down in the summer heat this weekend with One Stripe Chai.
Have you checked out Kalamaki Authentic Greek Street Food on Jonestown Road? The new restaurant celebrated its grand opening on Wednesday. I felt like I stepped in Greece as soon as I walked through the door. The owners and staff were kind and welcoming + the food was amazing. I highly recommend Loukoumades, handcrafted Greek donuts glazed with chocolate hazelnut and a scoop of homemade ice cream.
