Eating meat-free hasn’t always been easy, but in Winston-Salem, it’s a piece of (vegan) cake.

Our local food scene is as vibrant as ever, so it’s no surprise there are a slew of local chefs serving up fresh, vegetarian bites across town. From vegetarian deli sandwiches to scrumptious vegan pizza, here are 25+ restaurants serving up meat-free fare in Winston-Salem.

☕ Coffee shops

Camino Bakery, Multiple locations | Enjoy fresh-baked vegan and gluten-free pastries, breads, and sweets — plus vegan “chicken” salad.

Krankies, 211 E. 3rd St. | Try the “Vegan Classic” breakfast biscuit at this coffee shop featuring tons of beverage options.

Other Suns Coffee Shop, 414 N. Laura Wall Blvd., Ste. 104 | This cute little coffee shop serves up a few different vegan options, from breakfast to full meals. Try this: Breakfast sandwich with vegan bacon.

WStoday: Camino Bakery pumpkin break for sale on a stand at the Brookstown coffee shop.

There are plenty of vegan and gluten-free options to choose from — prices may change.

🌮 Food trucks

The Local & The Lebanese, Multiple locations | This food truck often makes stops in Winston-Salem to serve its American and Lebanese street food (with a few veggie and vegan options available). Pro tip: Track the truck on Street Food Finder.

Rockin Moroccan, 445 Patterson Ave. | Order the veggie platter or falafel salad, which comes with pita and two sides. Grab your lunch plate from this food truck on Wednesdays at Bailey Park.

Mike’s Vegan Grill, Multiple locations | Check Mike’s Facebook page to stay updated on when the truck will be in Winston-Salem — it often stops by The Hemp Source (690 Jonestown Rd., Ste. 190) to serve its 100% vegan menu of burgers, hot dogs, and sides.

🍕 Casual eating

Village Juice & Kitchen, Stratford Towers, 205-O S. Stratford Rd. | Grab a hearty vegan salad bowl (or build your own), a black bean burger, smoothie, or baked good at this local spot. Try this: Raw vegan cheesecake made with seasonal flavors.

WStoday: Salad bowl from Yamas includes street, corn, tomatoes, and bell peppers, with a rose lemonade iced tea on the side.

Although City Editor Kellina enjoys chicken in her salad, you can opt in for falafel instead or order the veganopolis.
