Historic Bethabara Park’s oldest house receives grant for rehabilitation
Did you know Bethabara was intended to be a center of commerce and trade? | Photo by WStoday
One of Historic Bethabara Park’s building is getting renovated. The Potter’s House is among three sites in NC to receive a grant to restore and preserve its significance.
The National Park Service awarded ~$505,000 to the city of Winston-Salem for the rehabilitation of the house. The grant will help with historical research of the house, roof repairs to prevent further water damage, painting, and other finishes.
Historic Bethabara Park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and was later designated as a National Historic Landmark District in 1999. The Potter’s House is the oldest building in the village, built in 1782. It is one of three original buildings that still stands in the park.
