Prost, Winston-Salem: Your guide to Oktoberfest brews and festivities

Although we may not be Munich, us Winstonians know how to throw a great party Case in point: Oktoberfest. The German festival runs from Saturday, Sept. 21 through Sunday, Oct. 6, and our city parties the whole time.
Oktoberfest celebrates the marriage of the Baravian crown prince in 1810. Festivities include beers, music, dancing, and contests. Save that plane ticket and prost to the German celebration in Winston-Salem.
Saturday, Sept. 21
Piedmont Wind Symphony Oktoberfest | 1 p.m. | Coal Pit | Free | Enjoy an afternoon filled with toe-tapping tunes from the German band, paired with the festive flavors of traditional German beers and brats.

Plan for a detour if you’re heading north on Stratford Road between Greenbrier and Buena Vista roads. The road will be closed for stormwater infrastructure replacement between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., starting Monday, Sept. 23 through Friday, Sept. 27.

Make art in the park, shop from local vendors or hit the water with kayaking/canoeing during Art Jam at Miller Park tomorrow, Sept. 21. Anyone can attend the free event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Arts
Calling artists who live or work in Forsyth County. Pitch yourself to help create public murals in Winston-Salem’s West End and Waughtown neighborhoods. Three artists will be selected and given funds for commission, design, materials, and installation. Applications are due Sunday, Oct. 13.
Drink
Get exclusive access to the 20th floor of the historic RJ Reynolds building during the Annual 2024 Bourbon Series on Thursday, Oct. 3rd. Sample a wide variety of premium bourbons, whiskeys, and ryes with heavy hors d’oeuvres from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Katharine Brasserie and Bar — tickets cost $125.

Seniors and caregivers are invited to attend the Quality Aging Conference on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Attendees will learn how to maintain a healthy lifestyle while living independently during the free event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Generations Center — a Spanish track will be available on site.
