Generating economic success

Whitaker Park is getting another occupant. The 220-acre manufacturing complex located two miles north of downtown Winston-Salem will become home to Toyota Tsusho America, Inc. — a member of the Toyota Group.

The manufacturing plant will be used to create sustainable recycling and waste-handling solutions for Toyota’s new battery plant at the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite. The battery company purchased an 8.85-acre parcel at 4043 Reynolds Ct. for $13.77 million. This new investment is set to generate 39 new jobs over five years and foster more industrial growth and opportunities within the area.

“Interest from companies in the electric battery sector is growing in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County,” said Mark Owens, President and CEO of Greater Winston-Salem Inc. “Toyota Tsusho’s investment in Whitaker Park highlights the region’s advantages and showcases the ripple effect we are seeing throughout the Carolina Core as a result of the Toyota battery project.”

The company will announce its future plans for the Whitaker facility in late 2025. Toyota’s investment in North Carolina is set to become the largest economic development project in state history, with a $14 billion investment.
