If you have family visiting for the holidays, give them the gift of the full Winston-Salem experience with a stay they won’t forget. We scouted some options that will set the stage for a getaway to remember.

Artistic sanctuaries

West Salem Art Hotel, 912 Albert St.
Each room in this hotel offers an experience as unique as the decor. Short-term rentals are available for the Rose Room, the ART/partment, the Parisian Suite, or the VHS Suite. Much of the art that adorns the suites is for sale.

Hideaways with history

Summit Street Inns, 434 Summit St.
What were once two family homes are now charming respites in historic West End. The Ludlow and Sheppard houses have been renovated with modern amenities (think complimentary Wi-Fi and luxurious bathrooms) and unique decor. Room options range from a third-floor loft to a suite that spans an entire wing of the house.

News Notes

Traffic

Sewer work will impact 6th Street between Poplar and Spruce streets downtown this week. A contractor will be directing traffic 9 a.m.-4 p.m. starting today, Nov. 12. Work is expected to wrap up by Friday, Nov. 15, weather permitting.

Real Estate

The City of Winston-Salem is considering up to $208,050 in economic incentives to Hanesbrands to offset relocation costs. The company plans to move its headquarters from East Hanes Mill Road to The Park Building on North Cherry Street. A public hearing will be held Monday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. (Triad Business Journal)

Coming Soon

Miller’s on Robinhood is expected to open this month in Robinhood Plaza. The sports bar will take the place of a second ROAR entertainment hall that Mayfair Hospitality originally planned for the space. It will have four bowling lanes, arcade games, and a full-service kitchen. (Triad Business Journal)

Network

Get a free ticket to connect and collaborate with other Winstonians working to find solutions at the second annual Thriving Together Convening. The networking event at Forsyth Tech begins at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 and will include breakouts, a multi-solving exercise, and lunch.

Announced

The search is on for a new artistic director of Piedmont Opera. James Albritten announced his resignation after 21 years in the position, effective March 31, 2025. (YES! Weekly)

Tech

DEXA (formerly Drone Express) is one step closer to expanding drone delivery in Winston-Salem. The company has been granted its Part 107 Beyond Visual Line of Sight waiver from the Federal Aviation Administration. It will allow drones to fly longer distances in more restricted airspace, broadening delivery range and reach.

Pets

Furniture gets scratched, shoes get chewed, toys go missing. These are regular occurrences in life with pets. But a $10,000 emergency surgery? That’s a whole other ball game. Fetch Pet Insurance could help you offset some of these nightmare scenarios by providing comprehensive coverage and up to 90% reimbursement.*

The Buy

A one-year Costco membership — because for a limited time, you can get a $45 Digital Costco Shop Card when you sign up. Snag the deal and get ready to load up your cart with Kirkland’s finest.
