Back in September, the Winston-Salem community mourned the death of local historian and collector Donald Gray Roberson.
Now, the community has a chance to celebrate his legacy and the history of Winston-Salem — while uncovering thousands of pieces of unique local memorabilia, fine antiques, artwork, and rare collectibles — through a special estate auction.
Don’s collections span years of local and national events. Take a peek at some of (emphasis on some, as the collection is extensive) the pieces of local history you can find at the auction:
Unique kitchenware, including vintage stoneware jugs from the USS North Carolina, Tennessee, and Bowen Town and Country furniture store; vintage Old Salem coffeepot paperweights; and Moravian Winston-Salem commemorative plates

American artist and icon Andrew Wyeth spent 70 years finding beauty at one particular farm in Pennsylvania — producing nearly 1,000 works during his frequent visits.
Now, that site and his obsessive artistic vision are the focus of a new nationally touring exhibition, Andrew Wyeth at Kuerner Farm: The Eye of the Earth, which debuted at the Reynolda House Museum of American Art earlier this week.
What to expect
Bringing together beloved and never-before-seen works from public and private collections, including rare pieces from Wyeth’s own family, Eye of the Earth is a once-in-a-generation chance to see Wyeth’s evolving relationship with this singular landscape.
It highlights how the light, land, and water continually captured his imagination, evolving in his depictions throughout the twentieth century.
Eye of the Earth will remain on display in WS until Sunday, May 25, before heading to the Brandywine Museum of Art near Kuerner Farm.
Inclement weather is anticipated beginning Wednesday afternoon due to another polar vortex sweeping across the US. The city will be brining major roads — including the central business district + critical care passes — in preparation for the weather, with salting and snow pushing to begin as needed if snow arrives.
