The City of Winston-Salem will host a weeklong celebration honoring the 225th anniversary of Peter Oliver’s freedom, a Winstonian who gained his freedom and returned to the town of Salem. In the meantime, here are activities to celebrate his milestones:

Answered

Last week, we asked what your preferred way to cool off during hot months was, and here’s what you said:

When it comes to beating the heat... the results are in:

  • A splashing 73% of you said “pools” are your go-to summer cool-down.
  • Coming in as a close second with 60% votes: “I prefer to stay indoors"— because sometimes, the best way to chill is with AC and snacks.
  • About 50% of you are all about that river life, choosing tubing and kayaking for a mix of adventure and relaxation.
  • And finally, a sweet 10% voted for splash pads — because who says you need deep water to have big fun?
Note: Readers could choose up to two options.

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Kellina

If you’re wondering what your favorite city editor is up to on most weekends, the answer is probably some type of outdoor activity — lake, mountains, walking trails. Recently, I did a 7-mile trail walk at Hanging Rock, which was peaceful and serene. Bookmark our hiking guide to plan your next outdoor adventure.
