Film

Don’t miss out on the final weekend of the RiverRun Film Festival. Editor Kellina recommends catching “Behind the Lens: BIPOC Voices in Documentary Film” at Hanesbrand Theater at 4 p.m., then head next door for the closing party at Milton Rhodes at 8:30 p.m.

Outdoors

Two islands on the Yadkin River are now protected under a new conservation effort. The landscape will be open to the public for the first time and serve as a paddling and camping area. Cast your vote by Thursday, April 30, to help name this new island. (WFDD)

Announced

American indie pop band Saint Motel will headline Gears & Guitars this summer. The large racing event is set to take place downtown on Friday, May 22 + Saturday, May 23. Expect outdoor concerts, professional and amateur cycling, plus community bike rides. All concerts are free and open to the public.

Number

$3,900 a year. That’s the projected amount the city will save on energy costs thanks to new solar installations at Winston-Salem Fire Station 3 and 19. The project is part of a broader push to transition city buildings and vehicles to 100% clean energy by 2050. (ABC45 News)
