A Winston-Salem holiday tradition returns for its 23rd year. The North Carolina Black Repertory Company, the first professional Black theater company in the state, will present “Nativity According to the Gospels.” The play is a modern spin on Langston Hughes’ holiday classic “Black Nativity.” The story carries a message of faith, love, and the power of storytelling. Performances will be held at Hanesbrands Theatre Friday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 17.
The Christmas performance incorporates gospel music, West African style dance, and spoken word. Attendees can experience a foot-stomping, handclapping theatrical performance filled with Afrocentric costumes and dances.
Here’s what to know if you plan to attend:
- Tickets range from $20 to $35 and can be purchased online or at the door. Pro tip: Now through Friday, Dec. 1, use code CYBER for $25 Thursday tickets.
- Showtimes are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. matinees on Saturdays and Sundays. Plan ahead: Tickets to the show on Friday, Dec. 1 are already sold out.
- The show is two-and-a-half hours long, including a 15-minute intermission.
