Local organizations to support during #GivingTuesday

Tomorrow is #GivingTuesday, a global movement to encourage acts of kindness that make our communities stronger. We’re letting you know about five organizations today so you can help tomorrow:
The AFAS Group (Art For Art’s Sake) | Support keeps art programs free to the public and allows the nonprofit to offer student scholarships and artist mentoring.
H.O.P.E. of Winston-Salem | Donations go toward fresh fruits and vegetables for families struggling with food insecurity.
City with Dwellings | Gifts go toward providing housing assistance, advocacy, and access to resources for people who are chronically homeless.
Plan ahead | Budget how much money you’d like to give. Any amount can make a difference.
Do your research | Donate to a cause you care about by using the search tools listed above.
Keep good records | If you’re deducting your donations, the IRS requires a tax-deductible receipt for gifts over $250 issued by the organization.
Think outside the box | There are other ways to give besides cash. Consider bequests, gifts-in-kind, securities, trusts, or pledging to volunteer.
Give local | There’s no better way to spread the love than by gifting your time + money back into the community.

My heart — and my stomach— are so full from spending time with my family and friends during Thanksgiving last week. I missed the Twin City while I was away. There’s just no other place like Winston-Salem.
