Stars aren’t just made in Hollywood. It’s time for part two of local celebrities and personalities that have made a great impact not only nationally, but also globally. Thanks to WStoday readers, we’ve added some big names to the list.

Angela Bassett | The actress, who grew up in the Twin City through the age of four, is well known for her role as queen of Wakanda in the “Black Panther” movies. She spent summers in Winston-Salem with her aunt throughout her youth.

Rosemary Harris | The English actress won multiple awards including an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Tony and later settled in Winston-Salem with her family.

Ben Folds | The Emmy-nominated composer and New York Times bestselling author has performed with some of the world’s greatest symphony orchestras. The Winston-Salem native will return to his hometown for his sold out show at the Ramkat Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Civic

You have the power to choose which areas city officials should prioritize in 2025. Winston-Salem residents can rank the top five developments for city government to prioritize over the next 3-5 years on the strategic plan public input survey.

Traffic

Work is underway on Polo Road to help improve pedestrian safety around Wake Forest University. In the meantime, commuters should plan to use University Parkway or Reynolda Road to enter campus — expect new traffic signals, signage, and pedestrian crossing markings once work is complete.

The NC Restaurant and Lodging Association will recognize those who have demonstrated exceptional professionalism, creativity, and positively contributed to the hospitality industry with Stars of the Industry awards.
