We know the question on your mind, Winstonians — when’s it going to get cold? Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for December, January, and February. While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what winter will bring.
Reminder: The first day of winter is Saturday, Dec. 21.
Temperature
Think cooler weather. This season, the Twin City has a 40-50% chance of temperatures leaning above normal.
Precipitation
Slightly less precipitation. Winston-Salem has a 33-40% chance of seeing below-normal averages of snow and rainfall amounts this winter.
Drought
Drought conditions are not expected this season.
December
Winston-Salem’s average temperature in December ranges between 33°F and 51°F. Winstonians can expect temperatures to be slightly warmer than usual.
