Martin Luther King Jr. Day is observed on the third Monday of January — this year that will fall on Monday, Jan. 20. It is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service in honor of Dr. King, a civil rights leader.

Here are a few ways you can engage with the community to reflect on his contribution and efforts to end racial segregation:

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Keynote Address | Thursday, Jan. 16 | 2-3 p.m. | Rhoades Conference Center, Robert L. Strickland Center | Free, RSVP | Hear pastor Dr. Keith Vereen, who’s an NC native and retired US Army veteran, reflect on the legacy of Dr. King.

NC Black Rep 2025 MLK Jr. Birthday Celebration | Monday, Jan. 20 | 7 p.m. | Hanesbrands Theatre | Donations accepted | The cultural celebration will showcase performing arts talent from the Triad. Bring three non-perishable food items which will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC.
