George H. Black
You can see the work of this famous brickmaker in some of Winston-Salem’s finest houses, churches, banks, businesses, hospitals, and across the Southeast.
Buster Greene
He served as the president of the Safe Bus Company, the largest Black-owned and operated transportation business in the world in the 1920s. (Fun fact: the city purchased assets of the company and used it to help build our current transit system.)
Victor Green
The author of the “Green Book” made history by creating an annual guidebook that helped Black roadtrippers to travel with ease between the North and South during Jim Crow.
Maya Angelou
The famous poet, author, and civil rights activist was a professor at Wake Forest University and lived at 3240 Valley Rd. where she would often host her grad students for dinners.

Plan for a detour if your daily commute is on Buena Vista Road. Crews will close parts of the street between Stratford and Reynolda roads for utility line clearance work between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. today, Feb. 17 and tomorrow Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Phase two of Long Branch Trail is underway. Share your feedback with city officials on what you’d like to see along the pathway on Wednesday, March 5 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. Drop by between 5 and 7 p.m. during the community input meeting.

Hanesbrands CEO Steve Bratspies announced his resignation from his role prompting the Winston-Salem based company to start the search for a new replacement. Bratspies will stay on through the end of the year or until a successor takes over the role. (Triad Business Journal)
