The Winston-Salem Transit Authority is going through ch-ch-ch-changes.

Yesterday, the transit authority launched new bus routes and service changes — let’s dive into what locals can expect.

What’s changing?

Several existing routes are undergoing service changes:
  • 83 | Increased frequency | From 60 to 30 minutes between arrivals
  • 107 | Increased frequency | From 60 to 30 minutes between arrivals

What’s new?

WSTA added a total of 28 new bus routes to its lineup. Here’s a brief overview, but you can check out the rest of them online.
  • Route 82, a Hanes Mall Circulator that runs from the mall to Burke Mill Road and Burke Plaza Court.
  • Route 97, a Northwest Circulator that runs from the Hanes Mill Road Walmart to Shattalon Drive and Bethabara Road.
  • Route 109, which runs from Robinhood and Reynolda roads to Reynolda Road and Shattalon Drive — with a stop at Historic Bethabara Park.
  • Route 101, which runs from Salem Gardens Apartments to the Peters Creek Walmart.

Outdoors

Get your cameras ready: The cherry blossoms are about to bloom. Reynolda Gardens is keeping an eye on the flowers and anticipates full bloom in a little less than two weeks.

Plan Ahead

Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership announced that the inaugural 3rd Street Soundwaves — a free outdoor concert series — will take place Friday, May 2 and Friday, June 6. Grab some food and drink for purchase while you’re there + get $5 admission to Kaleideum.

State

Don’t burn those yard trimmings just yet — even if you have a permit. The NC Forest Service recently issued a statewide ban on all open burning due to increased wildfire risk. During the ban, all burning permits have been canceled + new permits will not be issued. (WFMY)
