On Sunday, March 23, the Winston-Salem Transit Authority will launch new bus routes and service changes.

The transit authority’s goal is to make bus service faster, more seamless, and more efficient for travelers in the area — let’s dive into what locals can expect.

What’s changing?

Several existing routes are undergoing service changes:

  • 83 | Increased frequency | From 60 to 30 minutes between arrivals
  • 87 | Increased frequency, altered service | From running every 30-45 minutes to running every 15-30 + no longer serving Highland Avenue
  • 90 | Increased frequency, altered service | From 60 to 30 minutes between arrivals + no longer serving Arbor Acres and won’t enter WFU campus
  • 95 | Altered service | Will no longer serve Knollwood Street
  • 106 | Altered service, easier transfer | Will travel south on N. Patterson Avenue instead of Greenway Avenue
  • 107 | Increased frequency | From 60 to 30 minutes between arrivals

Routes 99, 100, and 110 are being eliminated due to low ridership. Check the linked sheets for alternative routes.

What’s new?

For the launch, WSTA is adding 28 new bus routes to its lineup. Here’s a brief overview, but you can check out the rest of them online.

  • Route 82, a Hanes Mall Circulator that runs from the mall to Burke Mill Road and Burke Plaza Court.
  • Route 97, a Northwest Circulator which runs from the Hanes Mill Road Walmart to Shattalon Drive and Bethabara Road.
  • Route 109, which runs from Robinhood and Reynolda roads to Reynolda Road and Shattalon Drive — with a stop at Historic Bethabara Park.
  • Route 101, which runs from Salem Gardens Apartments to the Peters Creek Walmart.
