Pickleball has become the fastest-growing sport in America for the fourth year in a row. The sport combines traditional tennis, ping-pong, and badminton. In honor of National Pickleball Month we’re passing shots knowledge on outdoor + indoor courts around Winston-Salem to show off your pickling skills.
Shaffner Park, 900 Yorkshire Rd. | Choose any of the six pickleball courts to play — players have access to restrooms and water.
Sedge Garden Community Center, 401 Robbins Rd. | The park is home to 10 renovated courts with new fencing, nets, and court painting.
Oak Summit Park, 370 Oak Summit Rd. | The park has six courts you can choose from — join open play on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Joanie Moser Memorial Park, 601 Lewisville Clemmons Rd., Lewisville | The park has nine pickleball courts available for play on a first-come, first-served basis. Pro tip: Call the office ahead of time to reserve your spot.
MLK Drive Streetscape Public Meeting | 5:30-7:30 p.m. | Union Station | Free | Share your feedback and design recommendations on the project’s landscaping, pedestrian crosswalks, and decorative lighting.

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist’s new outpatient surgery is scheduled to open in early May. The new facility is located on Medical Center Boulevard across Atrium Health. Patients and visitors can expect easier parking, a smoother drop-off and pick-up process, 12 state-of-the-art surgical suites, and a robotic surgery training room.
Development
Myers Grocery Store at 2101 Griffith Rd. is getting a facelift. Winston-Salem council members approved a rezoning to turn the convenience store and vape shop into a 3,300-sqft, two-story building. Developers plan to add a fresh food market section and 26 parking spaces. (Winston-Salem Journal)

Place your bid for your chance to become the newest owner of the former Skyland Elementary School property located at 2050 Big House Gaines Blvd. Bidders can submit their offer amount + proposed redevelopment plans to the Forsyth County Government office no later than 12 p.m. on Friday, June 13.

Women 40+ can register for a mammogram exam at the Pavilion of Crossnore Communities for Children campus on Tuesday, May 13. Patients must register by Friday, April 25, and be covered under an insurance plan.
