One chapter closes and another one opens. A new taco place is coming downtown. Taqueria Luciano’s will open its doors this month, taking over the old Mojito’s location at 723 N. Trade St. We’ll keep you posted on an official opening date.

Calling all artists. Camino Bakery is awarding $500 grant to an artist or innovator to make a meaningful contribution to the community. Applications for the Arts & Innovation Grant are open through Friday, Nov. 7.

Dr. Don Phipps has been appointed by the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools district to serve as the next superintendent. He will start his role on Monday, Dec. 1, under a 15-month contract. Dr. Phipps was named the 2023 Superintendent of the Year across North Carolina.

Yesterday, we asked what the Carolina Classic Fair first started as, and this was a tough one for the crowd. A tie between “tobacco fair” and “horse show and cattle fair” dominated with 60% of the votes. Meanwhile, nearly 28% chose “wheat exhibition,” which is the correct answer — go back through memory lane.

History is alive. You can now take a self-guided tour of Main Streets in the Towns of Kernersville and Bethania. The tour will focus on landmarks that played a major role in the history of these nearby towns. Just print the map and head on for a fun adventure.
Fun Fact: Bethania was the first planned town in the Piedmont region and the second place the Moravians settled in, after Bethabara. Just like Bethabara, Bethania is full of residential lots, gardens, and farm tracts, which sit within the 100,000-acre Wachovia Tract.
