$50 million. That’s how much Winston-Salem State University received in donations from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, making it the largest single gift in the university’s history. University leaders will develop a comprehensive plan to ensure that funds go toward student resources, including acquiring a new property near campus.

More money moves in Winston-Salem. The Greater Winston-Salem, Inc. Board of Directors unanimously approved a $100,000 contribution to help reduce Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools’ debt. Earlier this week, local fundraising efforts brought an additional $5.8 million to support immediate school needs.
