Have you heard of the record-breaking snowstorm that blanketed Winston-Salem in 1927?

On March 3, 1927, a massive storm hit Winston-Salem. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) officially recorded 16 inches in the city, but legend has it, the storm dumped more snow in some areas. There have been reports of up to 20 inches of snow in the Piedmont Triad.

In more recent years, you may remember the storm that dropped 12 inches of snow on Dec. 9, 2018 (up to 14.5 inches in some areas). According to NOAA, it’s the third-greatest snowfall measured in Winston-Salem.

Will we have a white Christmas this year?

The latest snowfall

Earlier this year, the Twin City recorded about three inches of snow in January, breaking its three-year snowless streak. Take a stroll through the wintry views of town.

According to the National Weather Service, Winston-Salem is expected to see snow after 1 a.m. tomorrow, Dec. 1, which is likely to continue through Friday afternoon. Forecasters predict mostly cloudy skies, with temperatures in the upper 30s and about a 40% chance of rain.

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Kellina

This last weekend, I took a day trip to the mountains in Boone, NC, with friends and got to stop by Greene Family Tree Farm. I’ve recently started a tradition of getting a real Christmas tree only last year, and the whole experience brings me so much joy. If you want to save a trip to the mountains, check out Rash’s Tree Patch on Reynolda Road or B&T Christmas Trees at 228 Jonestown Rd. (This is where I got my Christmas tree last year).
