Things we loaf as much as the Twin City? Spots with fresh bread. With the rise in popularity, sourdough bread has made a huge comeback nationwide. Let’s toast to these five local bakeries that are on a roll when it comes to transforming your regular toast into a mouthwatering masterpiece.

Bobby Boy Bakeshop | This beloved bakery offers a wide range of sourdough bread options made with locally milled flour. Try the Spelt Wheat Sourdough made with whole grain spelt, hard red wheat, and natural sesame.

Camino Bakery | A crowd’s favorite is the Seedy Levain made with non-GMO flours — white, whole wheat, and whole rye — with toasted sunflower seeds and flax seeds. Pair it with tomatoes and gruyere cheese melted on top.

Copain Bakery | The pain au levain, aka sourdough bread, is made from a 30-year-old natural starter and is a crowd-pleaser.

Open

The former Tavern restaurant in Old Salem is now open. Bread of Haven operates daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., except on Sundays when it closes at 5 p.m. A Moravian-dressed greeter welcomes you, while menu items include traditional Southern meals like shrimp and grits, country ham, and corned beef hash.

Open

Are you hungry yet? Another Winston-Salem restaurant is taking up space in Robinhood Village shopping center under a new name. China Dragon rebranded as U Bowl, plus a hint of American-style flair, with a new concept — China Dragon. You’ll have to try it yourself to see. (Winston-Salem Journal)

Traffic

Despite speed bumps along the road, Winston-Salem’s Northern Beltway is nearing completion. The stretch of the Eastern Loop is slated to open later this year to alleviate traffic on South Main in Kernersville. In the meantime, expect a shift in traffic flow. Stay tuned for an in-depth look at road projects in a future newsletter. (WFDD)

Sports

Salem City FC 2026 season tickets are out. The soccer team will play matches at Truist Sports Park in Advance, running from early May through late July. Save the dates to kick off the season.

Biz

Winston-Salem based restaurant East of Texas is expanding in NC, bringing its newest location to the American Tobacco Historic District in Durham (Hey, RALtoday). The owner of the Tex-Mex barbecue spot says she’ll bring “a little more ‘East’ of East of Texas [in Durham], later this year.”
