Things we loaf as much as the Twin City? Spots with fresh bread. With the rise in popularity, sourdough bread has made a huge comeback nationwide. Let’s toast to these five local bakeries that are on a roll when it comes to transforming your regular toast into a mouthwatering masterpiece.

Bobby Boy Bakeshop | This beloved bakery offers a wide range of sourdough bread options made with locally milled flour. Try the Spelt Wheat Sourdough with sesame made with whole grain spelt, hard red wheat, and natural sesame.

Camino Bakery | Locals swear by this bakery and coffee shop’s sourdough bread. A crowd’s favorite is the Seedy Levain made with non-GMO flours — white, whole wheat, and whole rye — with toasted sunflower seeds and flax seeds.
Owner Cary Clifford recommends pairing it with tomatoes and gruyere cheese melted on top. (Only available Friday and Saturday)

Copain Bakery | This newly opened spot is part of City Editor Kellina’s daily routine. The pain au levain, AKA sourdough bread, is made from a 30-year-old natural starter and is a crowd-pleaser.

Louie and Honey’s Kitchen | The Bee Sprout is made with honey wheat and 100% certified locally milled flour. Although the bread makes a seasonal appearance, you can always count on the famous Amish Cinnamon rolls, which are a local favorite.

To your Health Bakery | The shop offers gluten-free and vegan sandwich bread for purchase which comes out every Wednesday and Friday. Try the Rosemary garlic bread. Fun fact: Baker and found Anna Simeonides was a contestant on Food Network’s spring baking championship in 2024.
