The latest nostalgic trend has people sharing photos from 2016 on social media. A lot has changed in Winston-Salem since then. The photo above shows The Lighthouse Grill in West End, which operated for more than 65 years before closing in 2020. Since then, many local favorites have shuttered their doors. Skippy’s Hot Dogs
Oh, those homemade pretzel buns. Reader Jon G. swears they served the best hot dogs in town with delicious hand-cut fries. Tom G. fondly remembers the Chicago dog. The hometown favorite on 4th Street closed in early 2018.

Get excited.FanFare on Fourth is coming downtown in anticipation of the Clash. Fans will get a chance to meet NASCAR driver Raja Caruth and take a close-up look at Dale Earnhardt’s iconic racecar at Merschel Park (near Kaleideum). Expect live music, racecar simulators, food trucks, and giveaways on Friday, Jan. 30, from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
