Kernersville Family YMCA is celebrating its groundbreaking on Wednesday, April 1, at 1113 W. Mountain St., Kernersville. The organization plans to expand by adding a new outdoor airnasium, pickleball courts, storage space, and new T-ball fields. Register to attend.

Outdoors

Take a Hike Saturday is back. Grab Fido, a friend, or go solo to join the city’s monthly beginner-friendly outdoor hiking group. Register to attend the first event of the season tomorrow, March 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The reservation costs $10 for transportation.

Eat

Tomorrow is National Pi Day. Celebrating the never-ending 3.14 decimal or a piece of pie? We’re all about the pie — stop by Louie & Honey’s Kitchen for a slice of happiness.

State

It looks like North Carolinians believe in the power of sweet potatoes. That’s the most popular superfood in the state, based on Google search data compiled by Eachnight. If you want to buy some or see what other goodies are growing in the region, head to a local farmers’ market.

Seasonal

Spring is on its way, the sun is setting later, and summer will be here before we know it. A picnic awaits — Winston-Salem has plenty of local parks you can frequent for the occasion.

Kids

Looking for summer camps to keep kids learning this summer? Crossnore Adventures Summer Camp is open for registration. Students (grades 3- 12) will learn the art of storytelling, reflection, plus plenty of outdoor adventures. There are plenty of camp options to choose from.
