Turn back time in the Twin City

Have you ever wondered what our city used to look like? If you’re curious to know the shift that’s taken place, here are four places downtown that have evolved.
Let’s take a look at North Main Street. The street was filled with businesses and merchants throughout the corridor. Today, it’s lined with commercial buildings including the Kimpton Cardinal Hotel, which used to be the RJ Reynolds headquarters.

A block of buildings on Liberty, 5th, and Trade streets were demolished to build the transit center in 1995. It’s now known as the Clark Campbell Transportation Center.
What would you do with 15,000 sqft? The new owners of this $3.5 million Winston-Salem mansion are probably working that out right about now. The sale topped last week’s charts, followed by a $1.8 million home that’s roughly a third of the former’s footprint. (Triad Business Journal)
Film
UNCSA grad Dylan Arnold, known for playing Theo in the Netflix series “You,” stars in a new film: “Born to Lose.” The project made its debut yesterday at RiverRun International Film Festival. (WFMY)
Arts
Season six dates for Lyrics by the Lake have been announced for the following summer Fridays: May 15, June 19, July 10, and Aug. 14. Get tickets.
Number
$1 million. That’s what this downtown parking deck could be sold for, if the deal is approved by City Council. Moving the parking deck from city to private ownership under R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company would save the city around $300,000 annually in operating costs. (WFMY)
Traffic
Academy Street’s eastbound lane will be closed from Peters Creek Parkway to Hutton Street from at 5 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. tomorrow. Plan to use alternate routes while crews conduct improvements to water systems.
Kids
Classical Kids Live and the Winston-Salem Symphony have collaborated on a theatrical experience for young audiences: “Beethoven Lives Upstairs.” Grab tickets for the Sunday, May 3 performance to be held at Wake Forest University’s Brendle Recital Hall.
