Think you could be the next leader in our community? Citizens interested in running for electoral position can file their Notices of Candidacy between Monday, Dec. 4 at 12 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 15 at 12 p.m. at the Forsyth County Board of Elections office (201 N. Chestnut St.). Those mailing their notice must have their mail notarized and delivered by the deadline.

What positions are open?

Voters will elect the mayor, eight Winston-Salem City Council members, three county commissioners, and more. Filing fees range from $5 to $1,740.

Who is eligible to run for office?

Potential candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Registered Voters
  • Citizens at least 21 years old (restrictions apply depending on the office)
  • Affiliated with a political party for 90 days from filing the Notice of Candidacy
  • Must reside in Forsyth County

The primary election will be held Mar. 5, 2024 and Election Day is Nov. 5, 2024.
