They say you learn something new every day — you can be intentional about it with adult classes. Whether you’re looking for a creative outlet or an opportunity to make friends, here are five places in Winston-Salem that offer a lifetime of learning.

Sawtooth School for Visual Art

The community art and craft school has been offering classes to students of all ages since 1945. With studios downtown and at the Generations Center, you can get your hands on everything from textiles to photography. Registration for fall classes opens Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Vecino Center for Language and Culture

Learn a foreign language in adult beginner courses or schedule private lessons to get one-on-one coaching. Conversation hours allow students and community members to get to know each other and explore different cultures.

Mixxer Community Makerspace

A membership will allow you to use the space and take advantage of on-demand training. Use your hands + mind to create in a variety of workshops and classes like 3D printing or sewing.

You can reserve the makerspace at Forsyth County Central Library or keep an eye out for classes.

Forsyth County Public Library

There’s a lot more than books at these 10 branches. Budding entrepreneurs can get guidance on starting a small business + visitors can check out the 3D printer and other technology in the central library’s makerspace. Classes, events, and book clubs engage adults in everything from tai chi to writing + discussing short stories.

The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem

Learn to become a new character with the fundamentals of acting, or grow your confidence with public speaking. You can do it all with the help of experienced instructors in multi-week sessions. Who knows, you might just decide to join a community theater group.
