Samantha Howard will be the next president and CEO of Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. She is no stranger to the Twin City — she graduated from Winston-Salem State University. Howard will start her new role on Monday, Sept. 23.

No. 6. That’s where Winston-Salem ranks on Clever’s list of most desirable midsize cities in the US. The real estate data company found that out of 1,000 people surveyed, a low crime rate, low housing costs, and good weather are factors that determine desirability.

$280,000. That’s how much Winston-Salem will receive in grant funding from the US Department of Transportation to develop a comprehensive safety action plan. The money is part of $5.2 million awarded through the Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program to improve infrastructure in NC.
