Ring in the holiday season with performances, light shows, and marching bands at these four downtown parades starting this weekend.

Mt. Airy Christmas Parade

This year, the parade will honor two inspiring children as Grand Marshals. Bring a lawn chair to watch Santa in his sleigh and local community groups flaunt their decor Saturday, Nov. 23 at 5 p.m. Watch the tree lighting ceremony Thursday, Dec. 5 starting at 6 p.m.

What to know: The parade will leave from Veterans Park at 5 p.m. and will travel down West Lebanon Street to North Main and through the downtown area.

WS Holiday Parade

Winston-Salem Ambassadors return with the annual parade celebrating all holidays Saturday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. The parade will end with the annual tree lighting at Corpening Plaza.

What to know: Bands and community group will march on 4th Street from Broad to Liberty Street, turning right onto Liberty and ending at Corpening Plaza.

$4.5 million. That’s how much a group of Florida investors paid to purchase Truist’s commercial building located at 150 S. Stratford Rd. No word yet on what investors plan to do with the space. (Triad Business Journal)

Development

The Forward 2045 plan is out. Winston-Salem and Forsyth County leaders signed off on its main priorities over the next 20 years. Focus areas will include building more equitable housing + preserving rural and natural regions, increased access to workforce training programs, and public transportation. (WFDD)

Open

Delta Arts Center Library is complete. The new space will house monographs, exhibition catalogs, art history with a focus on contributions from Black Winstonians, and host educational programming which will be open to the public. Check out the library inside the museum on New Walkertown Road.

Shop

The fall Southern Charm at the Farm show is taking place Saturday, Nov. 23 at Farmington Dragway in Mocksville (~25 minutes from downtown Winston-Salem) after getting postponed back in September. Bring $5 cash at the door to shop handcrafted and artisan goods from 100+ vendors between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Announced

Winston-Salem City Council chose its new city attorney. Camille French will replace current city attorney Angela Carmon when she retires at the end of the year. The Wake Forest University alumna will serve as legal liaison for several city departments. (Winston-Salem Journal)

Drone delivery service company Dexa made Fast Company’s list of “The Next Big Things in Tech 2024.” The company was recognized for enabling safe autonomous deliveries in crowded urban environments.

Art

The Town of Lewisville is looking for its next public art piece to display at Shallowford Square and mural for Mary Alice Warren Community Center. Artists must submit their proposal by Wednesday, Nov. 27 + Sunday, Dec. 1 for each project, respectively — the total budget cost is up to $10,000.
