Fun fact: There are over 40 varieties of apples grown in NC. | Photo by WStoday

If you’d rather pick your own apples, check out these three apple-picking farms located less than an hour away from downtown Winston-Salem:
It’s as easy as pie — no, literally. Fuji apples are estimated to be available for picking in early October, and they’re considered a top-tier choice for baking.

When it comes to sports, Winston-Salem is home to some of the most loyal fans in the country — they even help name mascots.

In this guide, we’ve rounded up everything you need to know about Winston-Salem sports for the devoted Twin City sports fan to the newbie in town.

⚾️ Winston-Salem Dash (MiLB) | Est. 1945 (renamed 2008)

If you’re looking for wholesome family fun, look no further than a Dash game. The franchise is the High-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox and has a reputation for fun food items and creative rebrandings. The team has had many names over the years, including the Warthogs, Twins, and Spirits.

🏒 Twin City Thunderbirds (FPHL) | Est. 2017

The minor professional hockey team comes from a long line of predecessors, most recently the Carolina Thunderbirds and Winston-Salem Polar Twins. The team recently underwent a name change while anticipating its upcoming season.

Think this might be your new spot for an afternoon stroll? | Photo by City of Winston-Salem
Last week, we asked where this photo is in Winston-Salem, and drum roll... the answer is — Happy Hill. This meadow was installed earlier this spring to create better pollinator spaces and increase biodiversity in the Twin City. See the before and after photos.

Well done, Dan S., KG, and Ted M. — you really stood out from the pack on this one.
