A message from our team

We receive hundreds of thank-you emails every week, and often you ask how you can support us. If you’ve gotten something out of being subscribed to WStoday, like finding that life-changing concert in our Events section or using our City Guides to plan the perfect way to spend the day with family, we couldn’t be more honored to be a part of your life — and we’re calling on you now to help support our mission with a donation.

Stop throwing out your old denim. Recycle it through Cotton’s Blue Jeans Go Green™ program instead.

It’s simple: Find a participating retailer near you, drop off your well-loved denim (for free), and become a part of this green initiative.

How will your jeans be recycled? Blue Jeans Go Green™ will transform them into insulation for houses, pet beds, food packaging, and more.

Winston-Salem could look much different in 20 years. A resolution calling for 25,000 new single- and multi-family homes across Forsyth County by 2045 is headed to Winston-Salem City Council. County commissioners are set to review the proposal next month. (Winston-Salem Journal)

Seasonal

The Climate Prediction Center’s latest seasonal outlook is in: Winston-Salem can expect a warmer and drier winter than usual. Now through January, temperatures are predicted to trend above average, while rainfall is expected to stay below normal. Translation: Patio season might stick around a bit longer this year.

Quoted

“I really enjoy this website so I’m gonna give you 25 bucks, but if you misuse it and start getting politically motivated, I’m dropping it.” That’s what reader Jack K. said during our last fundraising campaign, and we’re proud to say that WStoday remains politics-free, now and forever. If you support that, make like Jack + contribute.

The Buy

As temperatures continue to fall, we’re leaning into our cold-weather essentials. Here are three we absolutely swear by:

👖 Really good fleece-lined leggings with pockets. The thermal lining delivers extra warmth without compromising on stretch and breathability.
🛌 A top-rated long sleeve pj set for maximum comfort and coziness during fall and winter nights.
✋ A pair of rechargeable handwarmers with three temperature settings and up to 36 hours of battery life. Bonus: They include a portable charging case for power on the go.

The Wrap

If you’re considering train travel in the future, I’ll leave you with one last Amtrak tip: Download the app. It lets you purchase and scan tickets, check your train status, and find station information all on your phone. For the folks like me who try to keep up with — and inevitably lose — their paper tickets, this option is significantly better.
