Jim Shaw Academy is taking off in Winston-Salem after a long pause. Editor Kellina spoke to Alexandria Shaw, who returned to the Twin City to uphold this mission of the academy after the passing of her grandfather and father, Jim Shaw Sr., and Shaw Jr. — Alexandria Shaw described her grandfather as a selfless leader who aimed to revitalize the East Winston business community.
“He inspired me to be a leader, not only for my family, but also for the community as well,” Alexandria Shaw said. " I always wanted to be like him.”
In 2025, Jim Shaw Academy saw a record enrollment at its Flight Fest festival, bringing nearly 900 people across NC and beyond.
Registrations are open for the 2026 ACE Academy, which runs from Monday, June 22 to Friday, July 10. The camp is open to middle and high school students.
