WStoday readers respond to “Things that only happen in Winston-Salem”

The Twin City has a reputation to maintain and we’re here to highlight it.

Could we talk about the views on a sunny day in the Twin City?

In order to celebrate what’s unique about our city, last week we asked: “What’s something that’s considered totally normal in Winston-Salem but nowhere else?” Here’s what you said:

  • “Naming your minor league mascot The Dash because your city name has a hyphen in it” — Doris B.
  • "(Moravian) Bands playing all over the city on Easter Sunday morning” — Annie M.
  • “Pronouncing Buena Vista " — Anonymous reader. (Some people here say “Byou-nah vista” instead of “Bweh-na-vista”)
  • “Consider Easter Monday a holiday” — EM
  • “Winston-Salem is written with a hyphen, not a dash and the naming of the baseball team The Dash, perpetuates misunderstanding” Annie J.

City Editor Cambridge also added her take:

  • Reminding people that the Empire State Building was inspired by our city
  • Exploring, exercising, and shopping at historic sites like Old Salem + Reynolda Village

We love our city, quirks and all.
