Although Rome wasn’t built in a day, five single-family homes are being built in Winston-Salem in five days — from start to finish.

The project is part of the $2.15 million grant the city approved for the construction of 13 new Habitat houses.

This initiative is part of a larger effort for the city to rejuvenate the historic Happy Hill neighborhood and preserve its rich heritage. Starting today, May 13 through Friday, May 17, crews with the Home Builders Association of Winston-Salem will work on the site of Free Street from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Five homes will go toward five families with Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County who are purchasing a home for their first time.

A dedication ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 18 at 11 a.m.
