When it comes to aviation, Winston-Salem isn’t just winging it — the Twin City is reaching new heights with the renovation of Smith Reynolds Airport (3801 N. Liberty St.), a historic hub where businesses can thrive on aviation ground.
Airport officials celebrated the ribbon cutting on Monday with the of new amenities, which include office space, a 6,655 ft. runway, and a close proximity to downtown. The renovated terminal serves as a collective ground for corporate aircraft, general aviation, and air charter services.
Once you enter the building, you can see a collection of photos showcasing the history of the airport on the walls, a 1930 Savoia Marchetti S-56 hanging from the ceiling, a replica of which Zachary Smith Reynolds used in his flight from London to Hong Kong in 1931-1932.
The Terminal Building houses tenants like Signature Aviation, a fixed-base operator offering amenities for private and corporate aviation customers, and car rental service Avis Budget Group.
Although you may not be able to book your commercial flight through Reynolds, you can visit the airport to watch planes land and take off.
