Arts spotlight: A free, music-filled afternoon in the park

Our WStoday team recently attended a free community concert in Tanglewood Park, complete with food, drink, and local vendors.

Hey WS, it’s your favorite newsletter team here, feeling the rhythm of NC flowing through us after a sunny afternoon soaking up regional sounds in Tanglewood Park.

We were there over the weekend for The Martha Bassett Show: Live at Tanglewood Park, a free, family-friendly concert presented by Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County and the Forsyth County Government.

The event was the final concert in the tenth season of their Parks Concert Series, which is all about bringing the community together to celebrate local and national artists.

🧺 What we tried

We packed a picnic blanket and settled down on the lawn ahead of the tunes. In addition to Martha and her musical guests, we enjoyed:

  • Sipping and snacking from on-site food trucks
  • Connecting with local vendors and arts partners
  • Petting the many dogs (on leashes, of course)

This was the final Parks Concert of the season, but Arts Council hosts dozens of performances and events each month at the downtown campus in the Milton Rhodes Center and Hanesbrands Theatre.

Check out the full upcoming schedule here.
