New developments are taking shape to make our city a more desirable place to live, work, and play. Although we’re less than a month into 2025, we’ve already seen some major announcements like Whataburger choosing its first Twin City location, Novant Health opening its South Tower at Forsyth Medical Center, and Team Winston-Salem making their big debut.

If you’re wondering what else is in store this year, here are 10 big projects to watch out for in 2025.

Crossnore Community Charter School | The campus will open for students in K-4th grade and will be based on a lottery system — the campus is slotted to open in August.

Tanglewood Park’s clubhouse | Patrons will have access to the renovated building which is slated to open toward the end of 2025.

Highland Avenue Park | Thanks to a $1.6 million grant awarded to Forsyth County, this new green space will become another gathering place for residents to enjoy more time outdoors.

Salem Multi-Use Path | Phase one is expected to be completed in coming months — Expect to see some progress on the eastern section of the path along Salem Parkway.

Shotgun House Heritage Site | Visitors will be able to tour this cultural gem and see exhibits about Black Winstonians. The final phase of this project is expected to be complete in 2025.

Parking changes downtown | Expect higher parking rates if you’re driving downtown as the city moves away from coin systems and toward a digitized payment system. We’ll keep you posted on when the changes become effective.

Peter Oliver Pavilion Gallery groundbreaking | While this long-term project will come in phases, Creative Corridors Coalition is hoping to break ground sometime this year.

Salem Bottleworks multi-use space | Watch a former Coca-Cola bottling plant turn into a spot you’ll want to frequent soon. Developer Jared Rogers expects dining options to be the first areas to open in the space.

Tavern restaurant restoration | No opening plans have been announced, but the new owners hope to serve lunch and dinner in the renovated space, which is a local historic landmark in Old Salem.

Forsyth Tech athletic program | Get your game face on and be ready to cheer on Forsyth Tech’s first women’s volleyball team starting August 1 and men’s basketball team starting October 1.

What other developments should we watch out for this year? Think restaurants coming soon, housing developments, and groundbreaking projects. We’re all ears.
