How does the Twin City stack up against other places in the US? Pretty well, according to these national publications.

The Twin City is No. 1 in our hearts — but a little external validation never hurts.

Winston-Salem has been recognized for its diversity (No. 41), booming downtown (No. 25), and for being one of the top 100 most caring cities in the US (No. 93). US News & World Report ranked it No. 60 out of 150 cities of the Best Places to Live in the US for 2024 and 2025. Let’s take a look at other top marks the City of Arts and Innovation has recently earned from national publications.

Living in Winston-Salem

We’re No. 50 on Niche’s list of cities with the lowest cost of living. That’s good news for everyone, especially people looking to plant some roots. Winston-Salem earned the No. 141 spot on WalletHub’s 2025 list of 300 “Best and Worst Cities for First-Time Homebuyers” and cracked the top 10 of Forbes Advisor’s rankings of the best cities for renters.

Working in Winston-Salem

When it comes to work, WalletHub ranked the Twin City No. 168 on its 2025 list of the best cities for jobs — and we’re working hard to attract more talent and businesses. Workers looking for a new career are likely to have success, too. According to professionals Careerminds surveyed in 2024, we’re No. 47 for “The Top 100 Cities for a Career Switch.”

Playing in Winston-Salem

When it comes to enjoying all the city has to offer, Winstonians aren’t afraid to get out and about. With plenty of parks and new green spaces coming, it’s no surprise we’re No. 99 on WalletHub’s 2025 list of best cities for an active lifestyle. The Twin City is also No. 169 on the publication’s list of best cities for singles — just check out our date ideas to spark the romance.

As great as playing in the Twin City is for humans, it might be even better for dogs. Thanks to businesses that welcome four-legged friends, LawnStarter ranks Winston-Salem the No. 202 most dog-friendly city.

Is there any wonder we’re the No. 125 happiest city in America? Keep up with more accolades we earn in 2025 by subscribing (for free) to our daily newsletter.
