Hey, Winstonians. City Editor Kellina here. Itching for a getaway this summer? After my time in Paris last year, I realized the City of Love shares some similarities to the Twin City. Skip the passport—here’s how to spend a day like a Parisian in your backyard.

Start your day with a twice-baked almond croissant with chocolate and a baguette from Bobby Boy Bakeshop. The French place a huge emphasis on savoring quality time, so put your phone away and enjoy every bite.

Head over to Reynolda House Museum of American Art. Paris isn’t called the City of Art and Culture for no reason. History is an essential part of French culture, so peruse the exhibits on display. Then, head over to the gardens and the village shops for an afternoon stroll.

Grab a proscuitto and burrata foccacia slab from Bobby Boy bakeshop with a drink of your choice.

Make your way to The Katharine Brasserie and Bar for the “soup du jour” with a Croque Monsieur sandwich for lunch. Pair it with a glass of Brut Rosé, Bouvet-Ladubay or opt for a Faux Fizz for a non-alcoholic option.

Stop by Copain Bakery for an afternoon treat. City Editor Kellina recommends an almond croissant with a vanilla iced latte to get over the mid-day slump. Enjoy the slow pace of life by sitting on the outdoor patio while indulging in your pastries.

Start to wind down at Buie’s Market or Caviste in Buena Vista and choose from a wide variety of wines made by local and regional winemakers. Pro tip: Keep an eye on their calendar for special wine tasting nights (usually on Wednesdays).
