New charter school coming soon to Winston-Salem

Once Legacy Traditional School plans to enroll 1,200 students from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and Davie County areas.

A new K-8 school company is working to plant roots near Winston-Salem. Legacy Traditional School‘s Winston-Salem/Clemmons location will be the first of its kind in North Carolina, with a projected investment of $22 million.

The school aims to focus on building a strong foundation in reading, writing, and mathematics. Students will have access to arts, athletics + innovative clubs and programs.

According to the Triad Business Journal, the Winston-Salem and Forsyth County Planning Board recommended approval of the school’s request to rezone 19.5 acres of property off of Lewisville-Clemmons Road from residential single-family to institutional and public use. The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will make a final decision in August.

If approved, the school is expected to open in Fall 2026 with an anticipated starting teacher’s salary of $55,000. Parents are invited to attend the virtual info night on Tuesday, June 24, at 6 p.m. to learn about Legacy’s curriculum, policies, and educational offerings.
