Attention food lovers. Winston-Salem’s Bobby Boy Bakeshop is a 2024 James Beard Foundation award nominee in the outstanding bakery category.

John and Lucia Bobby spent a decade working with chefs in Orlando and Charlotte. They moved home to be closer to family and opened the bakeshop on Reynolda Road in Oct. 2019, naming it for their family surname and two sons.

Lucia Bobby told WStoday the bakeshop wants to support and teach the next generation of chefs and cooks.

“We’re really proud of the community we’re a part of and we try to put that pride in the way we serve our guests every day, so to be recognized for that is really special to us,” Lucia Bobby said.

The list of James Beard Foundation award semifinalists will be narrowed down to a much shorter list on Wednesday, April 3, followed by the announcement of winners on Monday, June 10.
