Here’s how you can bid on the former Camel Pawn Shop building downtown

The property will be auctioned, which could lead to new business in the space.

Signage from Camel Pawn Shop is still on the front of the building.

A historic building in downtown Winston-Salem is hitting the auction block. The former Camel Pawn Shop Fine Jewelry will go to the highest bidder during an online auction Tuesday, Nov. 5-Nov. 12. Bids will start at $413,000.

The four-story building sits on 0.11 acres and was built in 1912. It’s been vacant since 2023 when the pawn shop closed.

Prospective buyers interested in checking out the property can schedule a tour on Tuesday, Oct. 29 or Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Not ready to invest? You can still daydream about what might move into the space. We asked readers and followers what they’d like to see:

“A nice comfort food restaurant that did not concentrate on alcohol sales” — Wanda W.
“I would love to see a beer and wine bottle shop” — Will R.
“Cowork/reading space” — Dee B.
“Roller skating rink” — KR
“Grocery store” — JB E. + Ray S.
“How about a downtown community center?” — Jen C.
“A lounge that serves food, alcohol, and a great time” — Jason R.
“Residential housing upstairs, restaurant on ground level” — Mike W.

What moves into the property is anyone’s guess, but we’ll keep you posted.
