You can see inside the restored Brown Family Conservatory at Reynolda for the first time on Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
The greenhouse was built in 1913 as the public entrance to the four-acre public gardens. Thanks to a gift from Malcolm and Patricia Brown, it has been extensively renovated and renamed. Updated features include climate-sensitive automatic controls, tinted glass, and themed areas showcasing plant species around the world.
Katharine Smith Reynolds was intimately involved in the construction of the greenhouse. She commissioned design firm Lord & Burnham to create the iconic structure used to propagate vegetables and host events for the public.
“I’m confident that the restored Conservatory will provide a sanctuary for countless residents and visitors,” said Jon Roethling, director of Reynolda Gardens. “I have no doubt that Katharine Smith Reynolds would be proud of this work.”
The conservatory and the Reynolda Welcome Center will welcome visitors Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is free.
