Apply to be an extra in an upcoming local film, “The Bard,” in Winston-Salem

Get camera-ready because the casting call is out for a local film unraveling in our backyard. The movie called “The Bard” will depict the life of a young enslaved poet in NC, George Moses Horton (1798-1883), who defied odds, inspiring dreams of freedom during his time. The film will be directed by Oscar-winning director Kevin Willmott.

One of the scenes will be filmed on Wednesday, Aug. 13, in Winston-Salem, with several other scenes filmed nearby. Extras will be paid $7.25 per hour or $101.50 for a 12-hour day. Meals will be provided.

Role casting

  • 50 Caucasian militia soldiers (ages 18-60)
  • 20 Caucasian residents (ages 18-60)
  • 10 African American female servants (ages 18-60)
  • 10 male/female pedestrians (ages 18-60)
  • 10 Caucasian females in brightly colored hoop skirts (Ages 18-60s)
  • 7 African American enslaved males and females (ages 18-60)
  • 1 Caucasian female with a small child
  • 1 African American female seamstress (ages 18-60)

Note: Due to the nature of the film, extras should have no visible piercings or tattoos that cannot be covered + natural hair colors and looks are highly encouraged.

1. Include the name of the role you are submitting for in the subject line
2. List the role you are interested in
3. Include two current snapshots of yourself using your cell phone — one framed from your shoulders up and one full body shot. Think like a passport photo or a selfie.
4. Include your legal name, phone number, height, shirt, pants, and shoe size.

Applicants must be local as lodging and travel will not be covered.
